Church Camp

Kali just spent 2 days at church camp!! It was very hard for me to watch her drive off in the church van, but I did it!! She was very excited about going and had a great time. She is already talking about going back next year. I sent a disposable camera with her, so hopefully she took some pics I can post of her stay.

Dissecting an Owl Pellet

My little scientist dissected an owl pellett and absolutely loved it!!!

Here is the pellett before she started

These are all the bones she found in it.
Owls, like many other birds, eat their food whole. Since birds do not have teeth, they can't chew their food. Therefore, they use their strong and sharp beaks to rip their prey apart and then swallow large chunks whole. The owl slowly digests its meal by separating the softer materials (such as meat) from the harder material (such as bones). It then regurgitates the harder material along with indigestible items such as feathers and fur in the form of a pellet. http://www.kidwings.com/owlpellets/
